LADY DUCKS FALL TO "RANKED" TARKINGTON

Coach Holly Turnbough and the Lady Ducks volleyball squad finished 3rd in District 24-AAA to earn a second straight trip to the State UIL playoffs that had them traveling to Bryan Thursday night to tackle Top 10 ranked Cleveland Tarkington.

According to Turnbough, the Lady Ducks played well and put together one of their better defensive efforts of the year, with some long rallies. But in the end, Taylor ran into a solid group of hitters and lost their Area match-up by scores of 16-25, 15-25, 17-25.  "Unfortunately, Tarkington just had stronger hitters," said Turnbough.  "They are definitely ranked for a reason."

With the graduation of four seniors, the Lady Ducks will be younger next year, but more experienced thanks to this year's solid play.

HORNETS SWARM DUCKS FOR 47-0 WIN

Coach Rick Cobia and his Fighting Taylor Ducks met up with a swarming Caldwell defense Friday night as the Hornets exploded for 28-0 points in the 2nd quarter and booted the Ducks playoffs hopes with a 47-0 shutout.

Injuries slowed the Ducks and proved to be too much for the offense to overcome as the Hornets put together consistant, long drives to maintain their unbeaten mark in 24-AAA play. The loss dropped Taylor to 4-5 on the season and 1-4 in league play.

The Ducks return to Memorial Field Friday for Senior Night and their season final vs the rival Rockdale Tigers.  The Tigers are chasing a 24-AAA playoff berth of their own and promise to be a tough opponent! Game time is 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $6 at the gate.
